Ignorance is to Bliss as Marriage is to...?

"You know what, Mary?"
"What's that?"
"You're pretty smart."
"Thank you."
"You've got a high IQ, don't you?"
"Yeah. I could have joined Mensa when I was younger. I think it was either my PSAT or my ACT score that qualified me to join."
"I'd like to know my IQ. Maybe I should take a test to see if I would qualify."
"Um, honey... why would you want to do that?"
"What are you saying? You don't think I would qualify for Mensa?"
"I'm just saying I don't think you need a test to prove you're smart."
"Okay. I get it. What you are really saying is 'why take the test and know for sure that Mary has a higher IQ?', right? That's what this is about right? You think I'm better off not knowing than taking the test and proving I'm not as smart as you, eh?"
"Something like that."
"Thanks for the vote of confidence."
"No problem."

We always knew you were smart (except when you broke your collarbone for the 6th time).

Well, sometimes it takes me a bit longer to figure out what to do, or in the case of collarbones, what NOT to do. I guess Mary was right after all.

She was kind enough to point out that I even got the conversation wrong. Said I made her sound mean. She's not. :)

Don't mess with a good thing is my motto. If your wife says not to take the test, she's either afraid that you'll beat her score or wants to keep you from a disappointment. Either way if you are in a good place.... don't mess with it!
